May 6, 2009. Barbecue and a Boat Ride

The Beach Area
The Beach Area

Tonight after work 2 colleagues and I went to a place on the beach for dinner. It was a place where they built a charcoal fire at the table and provided us with forks, chicken and hot dogs.

But before dinner we went on a speed boat ride around a small island a little off the coast. The boat was the kind that rode right on the surface of the water. Even a small wave would send it into the air. It was bumpy and we got wet. It was built to hold 6 people, but there were only 5 on our trip. It lasted about 30-45 minutes. It was a little scary at first, but we soon got used to it. We wore life jackets.

I didn’t get pics because it was so wet I was afraid to take my camera out. Also I was holding on to the boat with both hands. When the trip was over, the captain gunned the boat and we went right up on the beach. We got out without wetting our feet.

Then back to the beach where the fire was laid and cooking began. The meat, including the hot dogs,

was marinated in a lightly flavored sauce of some kind. It was very tasty. The meal consisted of meat and Tsingtao beer. Nothing else.

The trip included a bus ride, then a fairly long taxi ride to the beach, the speed boat, and the meal. The total for the 3 of use was 345 yuan, or about $17.00 USD each.

PS. I found some of the big grapes I described before in the local market. They must be in season. I only bought a few because they were twice as much as at Carrefour. I might have misunderstood, but I think the girl at the market said they were from the USA???
