Living in China. August 15, 2010.

Another hot and sunny day. Went to the library in the morning, played chess in the afternoon. Walked in the park at night. The guy was playing the flute in front of his restaurant when I walked by, but this time I didn’t stop.

Found a new market in a small alley a few blocks from my house that I didn’t realize existed.

The third picture is of a noodle stand in that market. I think I’ve mentioned before that almost all noodles and pasta-like products are made and fresh. They are almost never dried and then rehydrated like most pasta in the USA. Someone explained why fresh noodles are so much better than rehydrated pasta, but I forgot why. It has something to do with a chemical change caused by drying that can not be undone.

There was a 15 minute shower about 14:00. Since I had my fake crocks on, I ducked into a cafe until the rain passed and the streets dried, about 30 minutes.
